Dog Boarding prices in Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire range company to company, depending on what they offer and how experienced they are. In this short blog we will look at the highs, and lows, of prices for dog boarding so you can make a more informed decision.

1 – The Local Average (Home Based Dog Boarding)

In our competitor study we have found other boarding companies charging anywhere between £23 per night per dog all the way up to £55 per night per dog.

The difference in price could be down to many things;

  • The size of the company
  • The experience of the company
  • Whether or not they are licenced/insured/qualifed
  • Whether what they offer is unique (or niche)

For example, here at Hartwell Dog Boarding & Day Care we currently charge £35 per dog per night for home boarding. Truth be told, we have it on good authority we are too cheap for what we offer… but that’s another days problem!

For the £35 per night we;

  • Are licenced with West Northants Council
  • Have insurance with PetPlan Sanctuary
  • Qualifications including Canine first aid and an Ofqual Level 3
  • Have a One Family of Dogs rule
  • Mimic your home life as much as possible
  • Use PitPatPet GPS Trackers on every dog in our care
  • Dogs are never left alone for more than 3 hours
  • We even have an internal camera to keep an eye if we go out

So for £35 per night you know you can sleep well knowing your pawsome-pup is well looked after.

2 – Hidden Extra Costs

Do also be aware there may be hidden costs when it comes to dog boarding prices. It’s worth asking any boarder for a full breakdown of cost before you agree to any commitments.

For example;

  • If they are providing a pick up/drop off service they may charge you mileage or a flat rate
  • Some companies charge a registration fee (admin fee), which is a one off payment to get your dog/s on their books
  • Some companies charge a 10-15% booking fee on top of their nightly rate.
  • Some companies require a ‘test run’, meaning they will want your dog/s to spend a night in their care to ensure it’s a good fit – and this is always charged at their usual rate

While we don’t charge a registration fee, booking fee or require test runs, all four above are commonplace so it is worth being aware as the costs can quickly add up before you realise it!
