Seeing surprise turn quickly into joy and happiness is still one of the best experiences I get running a Dog Care business.

Sadly, it’s not something I see with our regular customers, they are used to the service now, but it’s a privilege I get to see in new customers!

Without fail, every Dog Parent has an image in their head of how their beloved pooch will behave when they get dropped off at Hartwell Dog Boarding & Day Care.

It’s like a video running in their mind on constant playback, enhancing all the troublesome behaviours you feel they have so when it comes to drop-off time you’re convinced they will be a little terror (or a big terror!).

“He’s a wonderful dog, loves to cuddle… but…”

Then comes the list of terrorising possibilities!

I was going to list some, but I know I don’t need to. If you’re a dog owner then you know exactly the list I am talking about and I am sure you’ve already got 3 or 4 things in your mind! Whether it is how they are out on walks, their energy, their obedience or more.

Trust me, there is always something!

I cannot recall a single dog we have cared for that hasn’t come with a warning about something

When pick-up time comes you can see the tension in the owner’s face as the door opens, as if they don’t want to ask how it went… only to find they have been completely and utterly perfect.

Surprise turning to happiness.

The joy that their pooch has had a great time, and behaved, puts a smile on an owner’s face quicker than anything I have ever seen.

You see their whole body change from tense and worried to relaxed and happy.

It’s a truly wonderful moment and it’s this kind of experience that reminds me; we don’t just look after dogs, we look after people too. The owner’s experience and feelings are just as vital as their dogs – and we nurture them both 🙂
